2015 Desure Buie
LNH Notes: (8/25/13) Desure is a 6’0″ pass-first point guard who likes to drive and dish. His frame is small and he’ll need to get stronger. He’ll never be a big guard, but Buie’s performance should continue to improve with additional size/strength as he often makes defenses pay once he’s able to penetrate.
LNH saw him playing up this summer with the New York Lightning 17U EYBL team and in Vegas with New Heights 17U. Minnesota assistant Kimani Young was formerly the director of the New Heights organization and the Gophers are showing interest in both Buie as well as 2015 Matt Ryan (who played with New Heights 16U).
Dan McHale left Seton Hall for Minnesota just before the Pirates hosted and offered Buie in late April, but McHale is undoubtedly familiar with the young guard.
He played high school varsity for Wings Academy in the Bronx this past year and will look to lead the team as a junior in 2013-14.
In 19 EYBL games with the Lightning during the travel season, Buie averaged 14.8 mpg, 2.3 ppg, 2.6 apg (23% assist rate) and 1.0 TO/game (27% turnover rate). His eFG% was 38.6%, though his shots were limited (9% %Shots) as he mostly looked to find his teammates. [Thus the turnover rate looks high even though his 2.6 to 1 assist to turnover ratio is solid].
To date, Buie’s offers have mostly come from mid majors, but with the benefit of good experience over the last year he should be able to continue to generate increasing interest from high majors. (end 8/25/13 notes)
