Minnesota Gophers Recruiting: 2013 Kevin Thomas
After a visit to Palm Beach State College in December, J.B. Bauer of Late Night Hoops had written this article at GopherHole.com: JUCO Forward Kevin Thomas and Palm Beach State Excelling.
As the season has progressed the interest in Kevin from high majors has picked up. As a reminder, he’s a 6’9″ sophomore at Palm Beach State. Originally from Canada, Thomas committed to Texas two years ago but didn’t qualify academically.
Minnesota has made it clear that they are keen on 2013 PF Gavin Schilling of Findlay Prep (Nev.), but our sources indicate that the Gophers are also interested in Thomas.
We continue to believe Thomas would be an excellent fit at Minnesota where they could use some rebounding help next year at the forward position. In addition to his basketball skills, his demeanor and unselfish tendencies on the court also appear to be good fits with the U.
This season Kevin is averaging 9 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks and 2 steals per game while making 57.7% of his 2-point field goal attempts. His team is led by Florida International commit Johnathon Holton, but Palm Beach State is an unselfish team that has several different players that can step up big on any given night.
Under head coach Butch Estes, Palm Beach State has lost just two games this season. They’ll take on a very tough Northwest Florida State team this Thursday afternoon (approximately 3pm CT) in the NJCAA Region VIII Tournament. Games in the eight-team tournament can be viewed live at PSBLive.com (Panhandle Sports Broadcasting) and the winner will proceed to the NJCAA National Tournament later this month.
